xStarter localization issues

Postby Janusz » Fri Mar 06, 2009 8:06 pm

Hi,

I’ve some questions concerned to xStarter localization:

1. Some time I’ve began Polish localization of xStarter and I found that language resources included to xStarter setup aren’t fully compatible with xStarter UI, and seem to me that language files are a bit out of dated. What do you think about release on site or forum link to latest language files? Seem to me that it is more flexible solution than usage by translators resources included to setup, because it allows translators update localization before release next official xStarter build.

2. Unfortunately, translators currently can’t to test localized versions of English_Plugins.plg with xStarter. Is this possible creation of any solution for change it? Possibility of testing this localization resource probably will improve localizations and speed up translation process.

3. ActionTree section of English_Plugins.plg file contains empty keys, but professional localization tools doesn’t allows on localization keys without values. Is this possible add values to keys of this section in next versions of this language file?
Currently keys looks in following way:
Clipboard=
Format=
Convert=
Mathematics=
DateTime=
Dialup=
Window=
Network=
After adding values these same keys could to look in following way:
Clipboard=Clipboard
Format=Format
Convert=Convert
Mathematics=Mathematics
DateTime=DateTime
Dialup=Dialup
Window=Window
Network=Network

Best regards,
Janusz

1. Usually latest file with string resources included in xStarter distribution file (English.lng). Yes, English_Plugins.plg can be outdated, I will think how to automate this process, so it will be always latest :). But I think it will not be published in the forum. For now I am not sure there are manu xStarter users exist who want to help translate program strings.

2. There are exist internal tool to load this file into plugins files, but I think I will modify xStarter itself to load plugins strings directly from this .plg files, not from plugins itself. Really, maybe this will help to translate the program.

3. Ok, you are right, I will do in this way.

Yes, probably you are right, but xStarter is very good program and I hope it will be changed in future. :D

I will think how to automate this process, so it will be always latest.
Good idea!

2. There are exist internal tool to load this file into plugins files, but I think I will modify xStarter itself to load plugins strings directly from this .plg files, not from plugins itself. Really, maybe this will help to translate the program.
Thank you. This is good idea too. It could not only speed up and improve translation process, but also allows to avoid some potential localization issues. For example after include Polish UI to latest Beta version, I found some Unicode issues for actions configuration UI (resources from plg file), while all Polish umlauts are correctly displayed in UI of main application (I’ll send details via email).

3. Ok, you are right, I will do in this way.
Thanks!

Hello Alex,

I’ve updated a bit Polish localization for xStarter (some bug fixes and improvements). Below is link to Polish language file:
http://grzybek.anet.pl/xStarter_PL.zip
BTW:
Any news about issue with incorrectly displayed Polish umlauts in action configuration dialogs (Polish_Plugins.plg)?

Hello Janusz,

Item 2 is ready in the latest beta:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=199

It's possible now to translate Polish_Plugins.plg file without sending to me.

Item 3 still not ready.

Hi Alex,

Because lately you took up localization issues, I decided to write short report about not localizable items in main application UI (based on 1.9.3.61 build):

1.Search Task dialog window:
All UI items

2.Preferences > Scheduler tab :
“Check and run missed tasks” string

3.Shedule and Info task tab > by The event > Event (below is list of not localizable strings grouped by event dialogs):

a) Removable drive:
“Drive”
“Insert”
“Remove”

b) Process start/stop:
“Full filename of the process”

c) HID device:
“Connected”
“Disconnected”
“Data received”
“Device”

d) Keyword:
“Keyword”

e) TCP/IP socket listener
“Allow to receive commands only from this addresses”
“(E.g. 127.0.0.1 or 82.17.12.t8;83.12.*, empty value = *)”
“Network messages from xStarter”

1. I forgot about one not localizable string from Action dialog window:
“User action comment”

2. Additional, in new version of English_Plugins.plg are missed some UI items related to Proxy settings. Below presented string block occurred 6 times in old (1.9.2.85) version of English_Plugins.plg. These items are still in UI new Beta build, but are unavailable in new (1.9.3.61) version of English_Plugins.plg:
cbProxyMode_Item0=Try USER with PASS.
cbProxyMode_Item1=Try USER with PASS. Try SITE with USER and PASS.
cbProxyMode_Item2=Try USER with PASS. Try USER@FTPServer with PASS.
cbProxyMode_Item3=Try USER with PASS. Try USER with PASS.
cbProxyMode_Item4=Try OPEN FTPserver. Try USER with PASS.
cbProxyMode_Item5=Try USER@FTPServer with PASS.
cbProxyMode_Item6=Try USER@FTPServer with PASS. Try USER with PASS.
cbProxyMode_Item7=Try USER@FTPServer@UserName with PASS.
cbProxyMode_Item8=Try USER@UserName@FTPServer with PASS.

Because these UI items still occurs in new beta build, so seem to me that you still use this same proxy component :) .

Best,
Janusz
